Egypt coach discusses failure to reach CHAN
Egypt local national team coach Hamada Sedky spoke about the reasons behind the team’s failure to reach the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The local national team were eliminated from the tournament’s qualifications after falling to a 4-2 aggregate defeat against Morocco. The Pharaohs settled for a 1-1 draw in Alexandria before suffering a 3-1 defeat in the second leg match in Rabat.
Sedky, who replaced Hany Ramzy after the latter left the team in July to start a new adventure in the Egyptian Premier League with Ittihad of Alexandria, said that he agreed to lead the team in the crucial encounters against Morocco because he wanted to serve his country.
“The local national team squad was supposed to consist of U-20 and second division players, this changed after some time and I don’t know why that happened,” Sedky said in a radio interview. “The Egyptian Premier League players have no motives, I sensed that clearly. The players are only thinking about joining the national team.”
Following their 4-2 aggregate win, Morocco booked their ticket to the upcoming tournament set to be held in Kenya in January, joined by Libya who defeated Algeria in the other Northern Zone qualifier.
