Zamalek negotiations with Brazilian coach fail
Zamalek’s search for a new coach will continue after negotiations with the latest candidate, a Brazilian, hit a wall.
Paulo Autuori had previously looked on track to agree to a deal to be the White Knights’ next head coach. A $1.1-million deal was settled on by his agent but all indications now are that this will not happen as the 60-year-old revealed that demanded a $1.4-million deal to take the job and Zamalek are not willing to meet this demand.
Autuori has been a coach in Brazil, Portugal, Japan, Qatar, and Peru and had amassed a number of trophies during this time. His most recent stint was at Brazilian side Atlético Paranaense.
The Brazilian coach turned down Zamalek’s offer few days after the Egyptian side failed to reach a deal with Romanian coach Victor Piturca as the latter did not accept the club’s financial offer.
The White Knights are looking to bolster their squad and hire a new head coach to replace Portuguese coach Augusto Inacio who was sacked late in July, with former Zamalek player Tarek Yehia being appointed as an interim manager.
They ended the 2016/17 season empty-handed as they were eliminated from the group stage of the CAF Champions League and the Arab Club Championship. They also finished third in the Egyptian Premier League standings and were knocked out of the Egypt Cup semi-final.
