Official: Amr Gamal joins South African side Bidvest Wits
Egypt international striker Amr Gamal has completed his move to South African side Bidvest Wits on a one-year loan deal.
The 26-year-old has already started training with the Clever Boys after completing his move and he was unveiled during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
After scoring 29 goals in over 100 appearances for the Red Devils, the Egyptian speedster will compete with the likes of James Keene, Gabadinho Mhango and Eleazar Rodgers for a starting spot in the Students’ lineup.
Gamal was promoted from Al Ahly youth team in 2013 and helped the Red Devils lift three Premier League titles, two Egyptian Super Cups, one Egypt Cup, the 2013 African Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup in 2014 as well as two CAF Super Cups in 2013 and 2014.
Bidvest clinched their first Premier League trophy since the formation of the club in 1921 under the leadership of Gavin Hunt last season. After losing the opening round of the league, the title holders boosted their attack by signing the Al Ahly striker.
He made 24 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring seven goals, however, he impressed for the Red Castle against the South African side when they met last March in the CAF Champions League. He most recently helped Al Ahly claim the Egypt Cup title after levelling the scoreline for the Red Devils 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Gamal is set to become the first ever Egyptian player to participate in the South African Premier Division.
