Ramadan Sobhi scores first Stoke goal as Potters progress in EFL Cup
Ramadan Sobhi netted his first goal with Stoke City as the Potters progressed to the third round of the EFL Cup following a comfortable 4-0 victory over League One side Rochdale.
The hosts enjoyed a bright start at the bet365 Stadium as they looked dangerous and had a number of early chances to break the deadlock.
The Potters skipper Joe Allen opened the scoring with a deflected header in the 16th minute following a cross from Erik Pieters. Just before the half-hour mark, Ramadan and Allen linked up for Peter Crouch who tapped in from close range to double his side’s lead.
Three minutes before the break, Pieters set up Allen again as the latter completed his brace with a shot from inside the box to make it 3-0 for the hosts.
Ten minutes from time, Egypt international Ramadan Sobhi opened his scoring account for Stoke City. A pass from Harry Souttart sent the 20-year-old through one-on-one and he rounded keeper Brendan Moore before sending a right-footed shot from a tight angle into the net.
This marked Sobhi’s first goal with the Potters since joining them from Cairo giants Al Ahly in the summer of 2016.
