Egypt’s women national basketball team suffered a 90-50 against Mali in the quarter-final of the 2017 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket on Friday.
The hosts cruised to a comfortable victory over the Pharaohs at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maiga in Bamako to book their place in the semi-final. They’ll now face Nigeria, who qualified after beating Ivory Coast.
The hosts maintained their lead throughout the game. Meanwhile, Egypt’s top performer in the match was Mai Halawa who scored 14 points, made 4 assists, 9 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.
The Egyptian ladies will play against Ivory Coast on Saturday in the classification of the ranks from 5 to 8.
Egypt had previously managed to secure victories over DR Congo and Guinea before losing two consecutive matches against Nigeria and Senegal. They then beat Mozambique in their final group stage game of the tournament held in Mali from 18 to 27 August.
The finalists will secure their slots in the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup set to be held in Spain.
