Four players excluded as Cuper name Egypt squad for Uganda
The Argentinean coach had named an initial 30-man squad, before excluding Al-Taawoun’s Mostafa Fathi due to injury. He announced on Tuesday trimming down the squad to 25 players after excluding four other players.
Cuper ruled out Al Ahly duo Ahmed El-Sheikh and Ayman Ashraf, as well as Ismaily goalkeeper Mohamed Awad and Smouha defender Mahmoud Ezzat.
The Smouha defender had joined Egypt’s training camp for the first time after the injury of Ali Gabr.
The Pharaohs are set to face Uganda twice in the space of one week in the World Cup qualifiers. The first meeting will take place on August 31 at the Mandela National Stadium, Kampala, before the Pharaohs host the Cranes at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium on September 5.
Egypt currently top Group E in the African qualifiers with six points, two points above second-placed Uganda, while Ghana sit third with only one point and Congo languish at the bottom of the group with 0 points.
