El Sherbini maintains World No.1 spot, Ashour drops out of Top 10
Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini has maintained her position at the top of the PSA Women’s World Rankings, while her compatriot Ramy Ashour dropped out of the Top 10 in the men’s rankings.
Two-time World Champion El Sherbini, 21, stayed on the top of the rankings for the 17th months in a row, followed by her compatriot Raneem El Welily in the second place.
Egypt’s World Junior Champion and former World No.5 Nouran Gohar dropped to No.7, while Nour El Tayeb fell further in the rankings to occupy the 14th spot.
Meanwhile, the latest Men’s World Rankings, which was topped with Frenchman Gregory Gaultier, has featured six Pharaohs in the top 10, with World Champion Abdel-Gawad and Mohamed El Shorbagy, sitting second and third respectively.
Other Pharaohs inside the top 10 included Ali Farag, who remained fifth, while compatriots Marwan El Shorbagy and Tarek Momen moved up one place to sit sixth and eighth respectively. Fares Dessouky also moved up to ninth place.
Former World No.1 Ashour, who suffered a litany of injuries during the 2016/17, has dropped out of the top 10 as he fell six places to become No.14, which marks his lowest ranking since September 2006.
