OFFICIAL: Alain Giresse steps down as Mali coach

French manager has resigned from his post as coach, leaving the African team in the bottom of Group C in the World Cup qualifiers.

Mali suffered a heavy defeat against Morocco in the third round of qualifications as they lost 6-0 away from home, before drawing 0-0 against the Lions of Atlas in Mali in the subsequent round.

“It has become complicated for me. There are times when you must know how to stop,” Giresse told CAF official website.

The Eagles have failed to win any of their World Cup qualifiers so far and only managed to score one goal while conceding nine in their two draws and two defeats.

The 65-year-old coach was in talks to become the manager of Egyptian Premier League giants Zamalek earlier this year but things did not work out.
