KingFut Pharaoh of the Month: Mohamed Salah
With the new season well underway, KingFut is pleased to resume its Pharaoh of the Month series, where we recognize the most prominent Egyptian sportsperson over the past 30 days.
Who else but Mohamed Salah would kick off our series this season? The electric winger enjoyed a fantastic debut month in the English Premier League with Liverpool, before rebounding from a disappointing 1-0 loss in Uganda in late August to score the winner in Egypt on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old scored on his second Premier League debut in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Watford on the opening day of the English season, before scoring in Liverpool’s second leg victory over Hoffenheim, as the Reds eased into the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Salah then left for national team duty on a high, after scoring and assisting in a 4-0 demolition of Arsenal. Unsurprisingly, Salah was awarded the Liverpool Player of the Month Award for August 2017.
The first of Egypt’s two matches during the international break was a day to forget, however, as Salah missed two easy chances in a disappointing 1-0 loss to Uganda in Kampala. Nevertheless, the Pharaoh refused to let the same happen in Alexandria the following week; he scored a sixth minute goal – ultimately the winner – to put Egypt back in the driving seat in qualification Group E.
It’s still early in the season, but it looks like Salah is in for another record-breaking campaign as the winger’s career goes from strength to strength.
