BASKETBALL: Egypt beat Mozambique in 2017 Afrobasket opener
The Pharaohs were drawn in group D alongside hosts Senegal, Mozambique and South Africa, with the top two teams qualify for the quarterfinals.
The first-quarter finished 16-14 to Egypt, before the Egyptians managed to trash their opponents in the second and third quarters 17-8 and 18-10 respectively. They were able to seal the game, winning the fourth-quarter 24-15.
Moustafa El-Mekawi was Egypt’s best performer after finishing the game with 13 points, eight rebounds and one assist, handing the Pharaohs their first win in the tournament.
Egypt’s remaining games in the group-stages will be against Senegal on Saturday, September 9, and South Africa on Sunday, September 10.
The 2017 men’s Afrobasket is being jointly hosted by Tunisia and Senegal from 8 to 16 September.
