Mahmoud El-Khatib announces his candidacy for Al Ahly President
El-Khatib issued an official statement on Tuesday announcing his intention to run for President.
The next elections are scheduled to take place before the end of November, according to the new rules of the sports law after the Egyptian Olympic Committee refused to adopt the Ahly charter.
The statement reads as follows:
In recognition of the Club members’ legitimate concern over the values, principles, and traditions of the established Ahly and the general desire of the the Ahlawy and the determination of any controversy, my colleagues and I have decided to run for the presidency and membership for the Board of Directors in the elections that are mandatory by law and due to be completed before November 30.
It is up to God first and for members of the club second to take over the management of our beloved club, Ahly.
‘Bibo’ played for Ahly between 1972 and 1988. He won 10 Egyptian league titles, 6 Egypt Cup titles, 2 African leagues, and 2 African Cups. In addition, El-Khatib won the African Cup of Nations in 1986 and played in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
