Omar Gaber watches from bench as Manchester United thrash Basel
The Red Devils hosted the Swiss Champions at Old Trafford. However, Egypt international Omar Gaber didn’t feature for his team as they suffered a 3-0 loss.
Manchester United looked very dominant from the start as they scored the first goal after 35 minutes through Fellaini, who replaced the injured Paul Pogba.
The Swiss team looked very weak defensively in the first-half and Manchester United were in complete control of the match.
Early in the second-half, Romelu Lukaku doubled the Reds’ lead after converting Daley Blind’s cross. Six minutes before the full-time whistle, Rashford scored his side’s third goal just minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Basel currently sit bottom of their group, while Benfica sit third after losing 2-1 to CSKA Moscow, who are in second place behind Manchester United on goal difference.
Basel’s next Champions League encounter will be against Benfica at home on the 27th of September, however, they will have to face FC St. Gallen and FC Zürich first in the league on September 20 and September 23 respectively.
