Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare declares himself fit
Senegal defender Pape Souare has declared himself fit one year after his horrific accident, which saw him break his thighbone and jaw.
Souare was involved in a terrifying car accident, as he smashed his Mercedes to pieces and had to be cut out of his car after suffering thigh and jaw injuries in the crash. The 27-year-old, who was airlifted to hospital, feared his career was over following the accident as he broke his jaw and leg.
“One year today I was in a life changing accident that could have ended my career, today I am officially match fit! All praise to God,” Souare said on his Twitter account as he remembered the crash on September 11.
The Crystal Palace defender is close to returning to the first team after playing his first 45 minutes since his injury with the U-23 Palace team at the end of August. The left-back, who has returned to full training 11 months after the accident, played for 70 minutes one week after his first match in another U-23 match.
The Senegalese international joined the club from Lille in February 2015 and was an integral figure under Alan Pardew until the accident.
