Ahmed Elmohamady assists as Aston Villa record win over Barnsley
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce started Elmohamady at right back, with John Terry, James Chester, and Neil Taylor accompanying him in defense. Despite making many signings this season in an attempt for a promotion run, Aston Villa were sitting in a disappointing 20th position with seven points from seven games. Barnsley were just ahead in 19th place with seven points from six games.
Villa struck first in the 19th minute when Albert Adomah scored off of a pass from James Chester in the centre of the box. Elmohamady tried a throughball 20 minutes later to Jonathan Kodjia but the Ivorian was offside.
Aston Villa earned a penalty just before halftime in the 43rd minute when Adam Jackson fouled Keinan Davis in the penalty area. Albert Adomah converted the penalty with a shot to the top right corner to earn his brace just before halftime.
In the 55th minute Ahmed Elmohamdy played a precise cross from the right wing to Keinan Davis who headed the ball in to give Villa a 3-0 lead. The goal gave Elmohamday his third assist of the season, which is tied for the third highest tally in the FL Championship so far.
The 3-0 win brings Villa to 13th place in the league, who now have 10 points from eight matches. Villa next play Middlesbrough at Villa Park in the League Cup on Tuesday September 19.
