Wits manager Gavin Hunt pleased with Amr Gamal’s goal
The Al Ahly loanee produced a magnificent performance in an impressive 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs despite being down to 10 men. The Egyptian scored an injury time equaliser to save Bidvest Wits from another league defeat.
Gavin Hunt hailed Amr Gamal, describing his goal as “fantastic”, but was reserved in his judgment of the player as a whole.
“Gamal has played Champions League football and that’s where I saw him‚” Hunt said.
“I don’t think he’s prolific but he is a fantastic footballer. You saw him tonight (Saturday night). I think he managed to hold the ball well in critical areas for us,” he added.
The 63-year-old also took time to defend Wits’ big name signing Steven Pienaar, who has struggled to replicate his form of years gone by.
“Steven has no longer got the legs to run all over place anymore but he’s hugely influential in the dressing room. I thought he had a great game tonight,” Hunt concluded.
Despite this positive result, the Clever Boys have only managed to pick up two points from their opening four games, and will be hoping to find their first win of the season in their next game against fellow strugglers Amazulu on Wednesday, September 20.
