Al Ahly’s Fathi makes CAF Champions League Team of the Week

Ahmed Fathi included in CAF's team of the week
right-back has been named in the CAF’S Team of the Week from the Champions League quarter-final first-leg games.

The Red Devils’ hopes of securing a spot in the semi-final were dealt a serious blow after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Esperance Sportive de Tunis at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium on Saturday.

Despite the disappointing result, Fathi, who had a good game, was included in team of the week, which was posted on the CAF’s Twitter account on Monday. Meanwhile, Ivorian Fousseny Coulibaly was Esperance’s only representative in the team.

Mamelodi Sundowns had the lion’s share in the best XI for the round as they were represented by three players, namely Motjeka Madisha, Themba Zwane and Yannick Zakri, after the South African side earned a 1-0 home win over Wydad Casablanca in the first leg on Sunday.

The record-eight time African champions, who last won the competition in 2013, will need to achieve victory or at least a 3-3 draw when they travel for the second-leg in Rades next week in order to secure their spot in the semi-final.
