Aswan captain Hamada El-Sayed detained over security concerns
Aswan captain Hamada El-Sayed has been detained over security concerns, the Aswan-based club announced on Friday.
The 36-year-old centre-back made 24 appearances for Aswan last season and scored one goal as his side failed to avoid the drop to the second division.
Aswan released an official statement on Friday announcing that the player has been held up over security concerns and is yet to be released. They have also announced that they have hired a lawyer to defend the player.
According to multiple reports, El-Sayed was detained due to links to the Muslim Brotherhood, which was not mentioned in the club’s press release.
Hamada has had a number of stints in the Egyptian Premier League with Suez Cement, Arab Contractors and Aswan, playing over than 100 Premier League games.
