Basketball: Abdel Nader shines on Celtics debut
Egyptian-American basketball player Abdel Nader had a great debut with the Boston Celtics during their preseason-opening win over the Charlotte Hornets.
Abdel Nader officially joined Celtics in July 2017 after being selected out of Iowa State in the second round (58th overall) of the 2016 NBA Draft. He became the second Egyptian to play for the Boston-based team after the Alexandrian Alaa Abdel-Naby who played for the Celtics from 1992 to 1994.
The 24-year-old rookie forward scored 10 points and four rebounds after playing for just 11 minutes, leading his team to an easy victory to pass their preseason test.
Before joining the Celtics, the Egyptian spent the 2016-17 season with the Celtics’ G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, following his Summer League appearance for his parent team. After finishing with averages of 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game with the Maine team, Abdel Nader was named the G-League Rookie of the Year.
