Misr El-Maqassa: Zamalek requested replacing us in Champions League
Misr El-Maqassa have revealed that Egyptian giants Zamalek asked to participate in the upcoming edition of CAF Champions League instead of the Fayoum-based club.
El-Maqassa had a brilliant campaign last season which saw them finish in the second place in the league table, behind league winners Al Ahly, which granted them a spot in the top-tier African competition.
“Mortada Mansour spoke with the club [El-Maqassa’s] executive director Amr Mostafa in order to participate in the Champions League. When the matter was discussed among the board members it was rejected,” vice president Bakry Salem told LTC channel.
“We took it as some sort of a joke. El-Maqassa’s withdrawal from the Champions League is absolutely not true because CAF will not allow a team to pull out of a competition and let it participate in another one,” he added.
