Abdallah El-Said ruled out of Egypt squad for Congo qualifier

Al Ahly’s attacking midfielder is confirmed to miss Egypt’s crucial World Cup qualifier against this Sunday.

During a training session at Borg El-Arab stadium, Abdallah El-Said underwent medical checks which would confirm that he had injured his hamstring, and would not be able to recover in time for the match this weekend.

The play-maker picked up the injury during Al Ahly’s recent CAF Champions League semi-final away at Etoile du Sahel, and will be hoping to make it back in time for the second leg in Cairo in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, and participated in the team’s training session and have been declared fit for the crucial game, on the contrary  has picked up a muscular injury and he is likely to miss the game.

So far in this qualifying campaign, El-Said has featured in all of Cuper’s squads and is currently Egypt’s joint top scorer with three goals.

It is possible that his replacement on the pitch will be Ramadan Sobhi, playing in a more central role than usual, however he carries less of a goal threat than El-Said which will leave even more of the attacking responsibilities with Salah.

Another alternative is Saleh Gomaa, who came off the bench to score Al Ahly’s goal against Etoile du Sahel in the match where El-Said was injured and Hector Cuper revealed that the 24-year-old is more likely to replace El-Said than anyone else.

The match takes place on Sunday, October 8, 19:00 CLT. In case Uganda failed to win against Ghana and Egypt defeated Congo, the Pharaohs, who last made it to the World Cup in 1990, would end their 28-year wait with an appearance in Russia.
