Judo: Egypt’s Ramadan Darwish wins gold at Tashkent Grand Prix
Egypt’s Ramadan Darwish won the U100kg gold medal at the 2017 Tashkent Grand Prix after defeating Niyaz Ilyasov of Russia in the final.
The 29-year-old Egypt judoka, who won the Grand Prix in Qingdao (2009), Tashkent (2014) and Budapest (2015), is the top seed in the U100kg weight class. He had previously represented Egypt in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.
The former world bronze medallist had reached the final after defeating former Asian Championships bronze medallist Saidzhalol Saidov, while Ilyasov beat former Junior European Championships bronze medallist Mikita Sviryd of Belarus in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, Uzbek judoka Davronbek Sattorov won the first silver medal after defeating Sviryd, while his fellow countryman Sherali Juraev earned the second silver medal with victory over Saidov.
