Al Masry go atop the league after beating Makkasa in 5 goal thriller
Al Masry beat Misr El Makkasa in a five-goal thriller in the fifth week of the Egyptian Premier League at Borg El Arab stadium.
The game was very close as each team instantly equalized but Egyptian veteran Ahmed Eid Abdel Malek scored the winning goal in the final minute of the game to grant Hossam Hassan’s team the win.
Al Masry XI: Mahmoud El Sayed; Karim El Iraki, Islam Abou Salima, Islam Salah, Mohamed Hamdi; Amr Mousa, Farid Shawky, Alaa Ali, Ahmed Gomaa, Cheick Moukoro, Aristide Bance.
Misr El Makkasa XI: Mohamed Koko; Hosny Fathi, Assem Saeed, Ragab Nabil, Ahmed Mody; Mohamed El Toni, Mahmoud Hamada, Karim Mamdouh, Eric Traore, Hussein El Shahat; John Antwi.
Two minutes into the game, Al Masry’s miss pass in the first third of the pitch found Karim Mamdouh who passed to John Antwi who calmly put it in the net from inside the box.
In the 18th minute, Alaa Ali played a one-two pass with Bance who set him up with a chip through pass inside the area but Koko was there to save Ali’s effort.
In the 23rd minute, Karim Mamdouh fired a strong shot from almost 30 yards out that El Sayed could only parry away into a corner.
One minute later, Makkasa went on the counter attack through Shahat who set up John Antwi to dribble alone into the box, cutting on El Sayed’s left side before his weak shot was stopped by Abou Salima.
Two minutes before half-time, Bance took a shot after going alone on goal but Koko parried the shot into a corner. In spite of Koko’s efforts in a well-played first half, he failed to catch the ball from the corner kick, which Abou Salima took advantage of and easily put into the open net.
In the first half’s stoppage time Antwi almost regained Makkasa’s lead as his header from Karim Mamdouh’s cross from a foul went over the bar.
In the 56th minute, Moukoro fooled Makkasa’s Koko as he took a shot from the right side of the box on goal. His shot hit the bar falling into Salima’s lap, who failed to control the ball and Makssa’s defenses saved the situation.
One hour into the game substitute Ahmed Shoukry latched onto Mohamed Hamdy’s cross from the left flank to score from his first touch of the game taking the lead for Al Masry.
Eight minutes into later, John Antwi equalized as Mahmoud El Sayed failed to catch Shahat’s cross from the right side to reach Antwi who headed the ball in.
Substitute Ahmed Eid Abdel Malek, followed on Bance’s powerful shot to score the winning goal in the dying seconds of the game.
This win put Al Masry first in the league ahead of Arab Contractors while Makkasa are yet to win a game in the league and lie 15th place. Al Masry are set to face last place team, Al Ragaa, on the 20th of October.
