Ghana Football Federation vice president has been named as head of Confederation of African Football’s Africa Cup of Nations Organising Committee.

Afriyie was summoned to headquarters in Cairo when his high-level appointment has taken place in headquarters in Cairo on Wednesday.

Afriyie’s tenure as the chief of the AFCON Organising Committee will last for four hours as he will contribute in the planning and execution of the continent’s flagship football competition, as cited on Ghanaian federation’s official website.

“He [Afriyie] will work with some of the highly respected football administrators on the continent as South Africa FA chief Danny Jordaan is the first vice-president of the committee and Zimbabwe FA boss Phillip Chiyangwa working second vice-president,” the statement reads.

It is also mentioned that George Afriyie is the first Ghanaian official to earn a major CAF appointment since the election of Ahmad Ahmad as Africa’s governing body president, succeeding Issa Hayatou.
