Former Egypt international believes should leave Al Ahly if he wants to play at the World Cup next summer.

The 34-year-old striker is yet to play a game for the Reds this season and his last start for the club came last July against Al Masry in the Premier League.

“If Emad Meteb wants to play in the World Cup then he has to leave Al Ahly to get more playing time,” Mido told ONsport.

“If I were in his place I would join another club to prepare for the World Cup. He needs to play more and that will not happen at Al Ahly.

“There is no shame in joining a smaller club to get more playing time. He could leave on loan like Amr Gamal.

“Meteb is a big striker and I hope to see him and Hossam Ghaly with Egypt at the World Cup,” Mido added.

A dispute arose between Al Ahly manager El-Badry and Meteb during their side’s game against Ittihad of Alexandria, when the veteran striker threw his training bib in frustration with the coach’s late substitution decision. In response, the 57-year-old coach decided to bring on Akram Tawifk instead of Meteb to replace Moroccan forward Walid Azarou.
