Agent: World Cup is Emad Meteb’s goal

Emad Meteb

and Al Ahly striker Emad Meteb’s goal is to play the World Cup 2018 in Russia, according to his agent Nader Shawky.

Amid rumors that Meteb is looking to exit , Shawky confirmed that his goal is to go to Russia and that is what he is working towards.

Shawky insisted that Al Ahly is the best route for the striker if he wants to play with the national team, due to their offensive playing style where he has a high chance of scoring goals.

“The question is whether Hossam El-Badry will help Meteb reach the World Cup. Will he give him a chance to prove how much he wants to go?” contemplated Shawky in a radio interview.

The football agent stated that the 34-year-old striker will stay with the Red Devils if manager Hossam El-Badry helped him show national team manager Hector Cuper that he deserves to go to Russia.

“I believe that Emad, with his history, deserves to join those going to the World Cup”

When asked if the offers that Meteb will be taking would be international or local, Shawky said that the offer does not matter, what matters is the coach and if he will give Meteb the chance to play.

Shawky revealed that former footballer and Wadi Degla manager, Ahmed Hossam Mido, spoke to him last year in regards to Meteb, but he did not want to leave Al Ahly. He went on to say that no one has officially spoken to him this year, and no one will until January.

Mido previously stated, in an interview with ON Sport, that he believes that Meteb should leave Al Ahly if he wants to play at the World Cup next summer.

Meteb is yet to play a game for the Reds this season and his last start for the club came last July against Al Masry in the Premier League. A dispute arose between Al Ahly manager El-Badry and Meteb during their side’s game against Ittihad of Alexandria, when the veteran striker threw his training bib in frustration with the coach’s late substitution decision. In response, the 57-year-old coach decided to bring on Akram Tawifk instead of Meteb to replace Moroccan forward Walid Azarou.
