Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Trezeguet features in 2-1 defeat

Essam El-Hadary – Al Taawoun (Saudi Arabia)
October 20 – Saudi Pro League – Egypt’s veteran keeper Essam El-Hadary played the full 90 minutes as Al-Taawoun defeated Al-Faisaly 1-0 in the seventh fixture of the Saudi Pro League. A late goal from Naif al-Mousa secured the three points for the home side. Following the win, Al-Taawoun currently occupy the eighth league spot with eight points and are set to face Ohod on October 27.
Mahmoud Hassan Trezegeut – Kasimpasa (Turkey)
October 20 – Super Lig – Trezeguet played the 90 minutes as Antalyaspor defeated Kasimpasa 2-1. Jhon Murillo gave the guests the lead in the 23rd minute off a rebound of Trezeguet’s powerful shot from long range. Two minutes before the break, Samuel Eto’o scored a header from a corner kick to the home side. Seven minutes after the restart, Kasimpasa’s goalscorer Murillo was sent off and Deniz Kadah scored the winner for the hosts 20 minutes later. Kasimpasa are currently in the 15th position with eight points and are set to face Nigde Belediyespor in the Turkish Cup on October 24.
Karim Hafez – Lens (France)
October 21 – Ligue 2 – Karim Hafez played the full 90 minutes as Reims defeated Lens 1-0 in the 12th fixture of the French Ligue 2. An early goal scored by Diego secured the three points for the league leaders. Following the loss, Lens currently occupy the 18th league spot with nine points and are set to face Chateauroux on October 30.
Ramadan Sobhi – Stoke City (England)
October 21 – Premier League – Ramadan Sobhi was an unused substitute as Stoke’s underwhelming season continued with a 2-1 home loss to struggling Bournemouth. The Potters got off to the worst possible start with Andrew Surman opening the scoring in the 16th minute, before the guests won a penalty just two minutes later which was dispatched by Junior Stanislas. Mame Biram Diouf continued his impressive goalscoring form but it proved to only be a consolation as it finished 2-1. Stoke, who currently sit 18th on the table, have a tricky away fixture at Watford on Saturday.
Sam Morsy – Wigan Athletic (England)
October 21 – League One – Sam Morsy played the full 90 minutes as Wigan thrashed Blackpool 3-1 in the 15th fixture of the English League One. Following the win, Wigan currently occupy the second league spot with 35 points, just two points behind leaders Shrewsbury Town. The Latics are set to face Blackburn Rovers on October 28 in the next league fixture.
October 24 – Checkatrade Trophy – Sam Morsy was excluded from the squad as Wigan beat Middlesbrough U23 4-1 in the Checkatrade Trophy. Lee Evans scored Wigan’s first goal in the 33rd minute and Victor Maffeo doubled the lead right before the break. Luke Armstrong pulled one back for Middlesbrough in the 53rd minute. Noel Hunt then added Wigan’s third in the 72nd minute before Ryan Colclough added the fourth two minutes later. Wigan will next play in the league against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)
October 21 – EFL Championship – Ahmed Elmohamady started as Aston Villa won 2-1 against Fulham. England and Chelsea legend John Terry scored his first Aston Villa goal in the first half before former Celtic midfielder Stefan Johansen equalised for Fulham just before half time. In the opening stages of the second half, Ghana international Albert Adomah scored what proved to be the winning goal for the Villans. Aston Villa are now fifth on the league table with 22 points, their next game will be a local derby against Birmingham City next weekend.
Mohamed Elneny – Arsenal (England)
October 22 – English Premier League – Mohamed Elneny was left out of the squad as Arsenal defeated Everton 5-2. Everton opened the scoring through Wayne Rooney in the 12th minute and Nacho Monreal equalised for the Gunners towards the end of the half. Early in the second half, Mesut Oezil completed the comeback with a stunning header. Arsenal continued dominating the match as Alexandre Lacazette scored the third in the 74th minute. On the 90th minute mark, Aaron Ramsey scored the fourth before Baye Oumar Niasse made it 4-2 in the 93rd minute. In the fifth minute of added time, Alexis Sanchez made it 5-2. Arsenal’s next match will be on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup against Norwich City at home.
Amr Gamal – Bidvest Wits (South Africa)
October 22 – PSL – Amr Gamal played 83 minutes as Bidvest Wits FC defeated leaders Baroka FC 0-1 in ABSA Premiership. Vincent Pule gave Bidvest the lead after scoring a tap-in three minutes prior to the halftime whistle. The Clever Boys jump to the 14th place after collecting eight points from eight matches. Bidvest’s next game in the league is on November 1 against Chippa United.
Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim Kahraba– Al Ittihad (Saudi Arabia)
October 25 – Saudi Pro League – Egypt’s Mahmoud Kahraba played the whole game as Al Qadisiyah held Al Ittihad to a goalless draw in the 8th fixture of the Saudi Pro League. Following the draw, Ittihad currently occupy the seventh league spot with nine points and are set to face sixth-placed Al Fateh on November 1.
Omar Gaber – Basel (Switzerland)
October 25 – Swiss Cup – Omar Gaber played the full 90 minutes as Basel advanced to the quarter-final of the Swiss Cup after beating FC Rapperswil-Jona 2-1. Basel conceded the first goal after 32 minutes through Mychell Ruan Chagas. Three minutes later Manuel Akanji scored the equaliser. In the 59th minute, Dimitri Oberlin made it 2-1 for Basel. The Swiss giants continued dominating the game untik the end to advance to the quarter finals. Basel’s next match will be away against Zurich on Saturday.
Amr Warda – Atromitos (Greece)
October 26 – Greek Cup – Amr Warda played the full 90 minutes as Atromitos Athens played out a 1-1 draw against Trikala in round two of the Greek Cup. Defender Aristotelis Karasalidis scored an own goal giving Trikala a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute and Atromitos only goal came from their forward Georgios Manousos as he netted an easy pass inside the box 15 minutes from time. Atromitos now stand second in the Cup table following Trikala on goal difference.
Mahmoud Abdel-Shafy – Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia)
October 26 – Saudi Pro League – Mohamed Abdel-Shafy was excluded from the squad as Al-Ahli defeated Al-Faisaly 2-1 in the eighth fixture of the Saudi Pro League. Following the win, Al-Ahli top the league table with 19 points and are set to face Al Feiha on October 31.
Aly Ghazal – Vancouver Whitecaps (Canada)
October 26 – MLS – Aly Ghazal played the 90 minutes as Vancouver Whitecaps thrashed San Jose Earthquakes 5-0 in the MLS Cup playoff at B.C. Place Stadium. They now advance to meet second-place Seattle Sounders FC in the Western Conference semi-final, with the home leg set for Sunday. The Caps opened the scoring through Fredy Montero’s header in the 33rd minute. Then Cristian Techera scored from a freekick in the 57th minute. Kendall Waston made it 3-0 seven minutes later, before Nicolas Mezquida added a brace for the home team.
