Pochettino reveals why he played Aurier against Salah
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed why he started right-back Serge Aurier at left-back against Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Serge Aurier was used in the left-back role and performed well against Mohamed Salah, who scored Liverpool’s only goal of the game at Wembley.
Despite scoring his ninth goal of the season, the Egyptian couldn’t turn his side’s Premier League form as they were demolished 4-1 by Tottenham on Sunday.
“That is up to you whether [playing Aurier on the left] was forced. If you play in some ways, it works sometimes,” Pochettino said after the game.
“Salah is a player who is playing on the right, always going on his left, running. Serge (Aurier) is fast and strong, his right, he can play in that position like at PSG.
“We won, we are so happy, the credit is for the players, they played very well,” he added.
Liverpool currently sit 9th 13 points, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City. Their next game will be against Huddersfield on Saturday, October 28 at the Anfield.
