Smouha’s Mohamed Hamdy Zaki called up to Egypt squad
Chairman of Smouha Farag Amer has revealed that Mohamed Hamdy Zaki has been called up to Egypt squad ahead of the Ghana clash.
Egypt manager Hector Cuper has included 16 foreign-based players for the Pharaohs’ upcoming encounter against Ghana in the last round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. The Argentine manager is yet to announce the list of local-based players.
However, the chairman of the Alexandria-based club said that the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have already sent the club a letter, requesting that Zaki joins the national team for the upcoming camp.
Egypt will play an international friendly with United Arab Emirates on November 9 before facing Ghana three days later.
Zaki has scored two goals in six appearances in the Egyptian Premier League this season, with one of them being the opening goal in Smouha’s 3-0 victory over Zamalek.
The 25-year-old, who joined Smouha on a three-year deal from Al Ahly, had played 11 games with U-20 national team and participated in Egypt’s campaign in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The Pharaohs have qualified to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years after beating Congo 2-1 earlier this month. They currently top Group E with 12 points followed by Uganda with eight points. The Black Stars are third on six points, while Congo remain at the bottom of group after collecting one point only.
