VIDEO: Warda scores brilliant free-kick as Atromitos beat Xanthi
Atromitos maintained top spot in the Greek Super League as Amr Warda’s brilliant free-kick saw them beat Xanthi 2-0 on Sunday.
The game kicked-off with both teams creating a number of unrecognized chances until the 33rd minute when Amr Warda had the game’s most dangerous. The Egyptian skipped past the defender and had a shot inside the penalty area, but it went wide.
Warda managed to break the deadlock in the 41st minute as he curled an unstoppable free-kick past Xanthi goalkeeper Zikovic to put his side into the lead.
The Egypt International stayed for 73 minutes on the field before he was substituted for defender Artistolies Karasalidis.
In the 84th minute, Nicolas Diguiny doubled Atromitos’ lead after he reacted brilliantly to a corner with his left foot, sealing an important three points for his side.
Amr Warda’s opener against Xanthi was his third strike in nine games across all competitions. The PAOK loanee scored twice before against PAS Lamia in the league and against AOK Kerkyra in the domestic cup.
Atromitos currently sit top of the table with 19 points, four points away from FC PAOK, who still have a game in hand against Asteras Tripolis on Monday, October 30.
