Handball: Zamalek crowned African Champions

Zamalek defeat Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive 31-29 in the African Champions League final that took place in Hammamet, Tunisia.

The white knights qualified to the knockout stage after topping their group with three victories over Ittihad of Libya, Phoneix of Gabon, Red Stars of Ivory Coast and Wydad Samara of Morrocco.

Zamalek defeated Cameroonian side FAP Yaounde 26-21 in the quarterfinal, before facing their eternal rivals Al Ahly in the semifinal, where they managed to snatch the win 26-21 an qualify to the final game to face Esperance Sportive du Tunis.

The first half ended 13-12 with Zamalek on the lead with one point, before being able to seal the game in the second half to win 31-29.

The Whites managed to win to their 10th African Champions League title and one title away from record holders Algeria’s GP Petroliers.
