OFFICIAL: Shikabala called up to Egypt squad
Mahmoud Abdel-Razik ‘Shikabala’ has been called up to Egypt squad ahead of the Ghana clash, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Tuesday.
A week ago, Egypt manager Hector Cuper named 16 foreign-based players for the Pharaohs’ upcoming encounter against Ghana in the last round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers before including the Al-Raed star and former Zamalek legend Shikabala to the squad on Tuesday.
This marks Shikabala’s first Egypt call up since 2014. The 31-year-old winger has been producing exquisite performances since his summer move to Saudi Arabian outfits Al-Raed. He has scored four goals, alongside registering two assists in six appearances since then.
The former Zamalek star will join Egypt’s camp, which is scheduled to kick off on November 6. Egypt will then travel to face the Black Stars on November 12 at Cape Coast.
The Pharaohs were already confirmed as Group E winner after their 2-1 victory over Congo earlier this month, which sealed their qualification for the World Cup for the first time since 1990.
Ahead of the final round, the Pharaohs sit top of the group on 12 points, followed by Uganda with eight points. The Black Stars are third on six points, while Congo remain at the bottom of group after collecting one point only.
The Argentine manager is yet to announce the list of the local-based players.
