Lierse SK finish Opening Tournament in 5th after win over OH Leuven

OH Leuven took the lead in the 51st minute, but a brace for Yagan gave Lierce the 2-1 win.

Following Lierse’s win today, the opening round of the First Division B has ended. Today’s results leave Lierse in 5th place with 17 points in the Opening Tournament.

First Division B is divided into into two main rounds, the Opening Tournament and the Closing Tournament. After the opening tournament is played, the winner books a place in the Promotion Play offs.

In addition, after the closing tournament is played, the winner will also book a place in the Promotion Play offs. The Promotion Play offs will be played over two legs and will determine who moves up to First Division A.

In the event that a team wins both the Opening Tournament and the Closing Tournament, that team would automatically be promoted. As such, Beerschot-Wilrijk have won the opening round and will qualify to Promotion Play offs. The Closing Tournament will begin on November 11 as Lierse take on Tubize.

After both rounds are played, a combined aggregate table determines who plays in the Europa League Play offs and who plays in the Relegation Play offs.

Lierse managed 4 wins in the opening round, losing 5 games, and drawing the remaining 5 games. They finished with a negative goal difference, scoring 19 goals and conceding the most goals of any other team, 26.
