Martin Keown: Salah is the signing of the season

Former England international believes that made a mistake by selling Salah, Lukaku and De Bruyne in recent years as all have impressed in the early stages of this Premier League season.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Keown felt that Chelsea would be better off with the trio who have been among the best players in the Premier League for , Manchester United and Manchester City respectively.

“These players are all so talented that it clearly was the wrong decision for Chelsea to let them go,” he said. “But when these decisions were made, these players were not better than those in Chelsea’s first team.”

Chelsea have been criticised on several occasions for failing to promote young players into the first team, with Andreas Christensen being the only member of their current starting 11 to have spent any time in their academy.

It is perfectly possible that none of the three would have reached the heights that they have gone on to reach if they stayed at Chelsea with limited game time, however the players that kept them out of the team (Schurrle, Oscar and Diego Costa) have all since left the club.

The Arsenal legend would go on to wax lyrical about Salah, who has 7 Premier League goals to his name already this season.

“For me, Salah has been the signing of the season. He and Sadio Mane are a match made in heaven for Liverpool. He makes these tremendous runs — and nine times out of 10 will put the ball in the back of the net at the end of them.”

Salah will be hoping to continue his great start for Liverpool in their next Premier League game against Southampton on the 18th of November. He will face his former club a week later as Chelsea travel to Anfield on the 25th.
