Ahmed Hassan blames Bob Bradley for not reaching 200 caps
Hassan currently holds the record of being the most capped footballer in the world with 184 caps, ahead of Saudi Arabia retired goalkeeper Mohamed El-Deayea and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon.
However, the former Anderlecht midfielder could be in danger of losing this honour in case Buffon makes the upcoming World Cup in Russia with Italy.
“I was hoping to reach 200 caps with Egypt but Bradley and his assistant Zaky Abdelfatah’s stubbornness denied me this target,” Hassan said.
“Buffon will face Sweden with Italy in the World Cup playoffs and will have a chance to surpass me as he is behind with 11 games. Apart from Bradley’s era, I have always featured for Egypt under all managers and was a starter for the side. When Ahmed Hassan becomes the world’s most capped player it is something that honours Egypt, but officials here do not know up till this moment how to back their stars to make history.”
“I will support Sweden against Italy so Buffon do not manage to play in the World Cup,” Hassan concluded jokingly.
