Egypt international has joined on a one-year loan, the MLS side have announced on Tuesday.

KingFut had previously revealed that the former Zamalek player has agreed to join up-and-coming MLS outfits Los Angeles FC in a move that reunites him with former Egypt national team manager Bob Bradley.

The 25-year-old has had little game time at the Swiss giants since joining them from Zamalek in 2016, making only 20 appearances and assisting three times.

He will now join Los Angeles FC, who are set to participate in their first-ever season in MLS, and will be added to the roster using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) for the 2018 season.

News of the signing has been welcomed by team manager Bob Bardley, who managed Gaber during his time as Egypt manager from 2011-2013, and General Manager John Thorrington.

“I loved working with all the Egyptian players, and had a great opportunity to get to know Omar during that time,” Bradley said.

“He’s always been admired by teammates and fans for his all-around contributions and willingness to give everything on the field. I am proud to welcome Omar Gaber to LAFC,” he added.

“Omar is an incredibly talented player whose pace, athleticism, and ability fit perfectly with the exciting team we are building here at LAFC,” said LAFC General Manager and Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations John Thorrington.

“He is in the prime of his career and already has international and Champions League Experience. We are confident he will make our fans proud,” Thorrington concluded.

The team have already made advances, most notably signing Mexico and Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela last summer before loaning the player back to Sociedad until the winter transfer window.

Gaber becomes the second active Egyptian player in MLS after former Nacional de Madeira midfielder Aly Ghazal, who joined Vancouver Whitecaps last summer coming from Chinese outfits Zhicheng Hengfeng.
