VIDEO: Mohamed Hamdy Zaki scores as Smouha draw with Ittihad of Alexandria
Smouha entered the match in sixth place with 15 points from 10 games, while Ittihad of Alexandria were just one point off the relegation zone with nine points from 10 games.
During the first fifteen minutes of the match, Smouha had more possession but were unable to threaten the opponents’ goal. In the 16th minute, Mohamed Bazooka appeared to have handled the ball inside the box, but penalty appeals were turned down by the referee.
Three minutes before half time, Mohmaed Hamdy Zaki scored Smouha’s goal after a cross from Tarek Taha. Zaki’s goal was his third of the campaign after a great goal in their 3-0 thrashing of Zamalek in the sixth week of the competition.
Shortly after the start of the second half, Mohamed Gedo scored Ittihad of Alexandria’s goal. It was Ittihad’s first goal against Smouha since January 3, 2015 – a stretch of five games. Gedo’s goal was his second in as many games this season as he scored in their 1-1 draw with Tanta.
The rest of the match saw both teams trying to score the winner, but both sets of defenders and goalkeepers kept the score even after 90 minutes.
The result leaves Smouha in sixth place with 16 points from 11 games. Meanwhile, Ittihad of Alexandria remain in 15th place with 10 points from 11 games.
Smouha will next play against Arab Contractors on December 3, while Ittihad of Alexandria will take on Wadi Degla on the same day.
