Sampdoria, Genk interested in signing Ahmed El-Shennawy – Report
Serie A side U.C. Sampdoria are keen on signing Egypt international goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy, according to reports in Italy.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper, who has a $1.5 million release clause in his Zamalek contract, has been ever-present for the White Castle, making 110 appearances since joining from Al Masry in 2012.
However he could head to Italy or Belgium as Sampdoria and K.R.C. Genk are interested in his services, according to Calciomercato.
Sampodria have Italy international Emiliano Viviano, Christian Puggioni, Titas Krapikas and Andrea Tozzo as their goalkeeping options and will look forward to strengthen that position with Ahmed El-Shennawy.
Meanwhile, Genk’s goalkeeping options are Danny Vukovic, Nordin Jackers and Gaëtan Coucke, with the Egyptian having much more international experience than the trio.
El-Shennawy was part of the Zamalek team that won the domestic double in 2015 and have also lifted the Egypt Cup title with the Whites in 2016.
He has made his international debut in 2011 against Niger in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, pulling on the shirt every year since then. Overall he has made 28 appearances for Egypt, with the last one coming against Mali in 2017 AFCON opener.
