Saad Samir scores for Al Ahly vs ENPPI

Reigning champions beat 3-1 in the 12th week of the

Al Ahly entered the match in third place with 19 points from just seven games, while ENPPI were in seventh place with 15 points from 11 games.

Al Ahly’s first chance of the game came when Walid Azarou intercepted Aly Fawzi’s bad back pass to Ali Lotfi. He found himself 1-on-1 with Lotfi, but his final shot was far off target.

A few minutes later, ENPPI had their first chance when Aboubacar Diarra had a rocket of a shot from outside the box, but Al Ahly keeper Mohamed Elshennawy made an equally impressive save.

Both teams created chances, but ENPPI had far more possession and were able to reach Al Ahly’s box on multiple occasions. Again in the 27th minute, a defensive error from ENPPI saw Azarou pass the ball to Abdallah El Said who shot the ball straight at Ali Lotfi.

Al Ahly’s attempts finally paid off in the 28th minute after Saad Samir headed in Walid Soliman’s corner to score his third in eight games in the league this season. It was also Walid Soliman’s first assist after assisting five in the last league campaign.

Ten minutes later, Nigerian forward Junior Ajayi scored the Red Devils’ second goal in a wonderful manner after a series of passes with Abdallah El Said. Like Samir, Ajayi’s goal was his third of the season.

The fast pace of the match continued as ENPPI scored their first goal only five minutes later through Salah Mohsen, who scored his fifth goal of the season.

Shortly into the start of the second half, Azarou restored Al Ahly’s two goal advantage after Ajayi’s pass was deflected off the crossbar by an ENPPI defender into Azarou’s path. His goal extends his lead as top scorer for the Red Devils with five goals to his name this campaign.

In the dying minutes of the game, substitute Ahmed El Sheikh scored his second league goal of the season.

The win is Al Ahly’s first over ENPPI in the league since the 2015/2016 season when they beat them both home and away.

The result puts Al Ahly in second place with 22 points from eight games, while ENPPI remain in seventh place with 15 points from 12 matches.

The Red Devils will take on Al Assiouty on December 6, one of the matches that was delayed as Al Ahly were playing in the CAF Champions League. Meanwhile, ENPPI will take on El Entag El Harby on December 13 as part of the 13th week of the Egyptian Premier League.
