Official: Mido resigns as Wadi Degla manager

has resigned as head coach of Egyptian Premier League side Wadi Degla following their 4-0 defeat to Ittihad of Alexandria.

Degla are currently struggling in the relegation zone as they sit 16th on the league table with eight points. After 12 rounds in the 2017/18 season, they have secured only one victory and settled for five draws.

Following their heavy defeat to 10th-place Ittihad on Sunday, the former Tottenham Hotspur forward announced his resignation.

“I submitted my resignation to Wadi Degla officials. I thank everyone in the club for supporting me during my time at the club and I wish them luck in the upcoming period. And I specifically thank my brother Maged Samy [Wadi Degla owner],” the former Zamalek striker tweeted.

Following the announcement, Samy expressed his gratitude to Mido. “Thank you for putting the club before yourself. Even if you’re no longer the Wadi Degla manager, you’ll always be a member of our club,” Samy wrote on his Facebook account.

The 34-year-old coach leaves Degla just over a year after he was appointed as Patrice Carteron’s successor at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, which saw Degla finish in 12th place.

Degla’s next game will be against Al Masry on December 9 in the round of 16 of Egypt Cup before they take on Arab Contractors in the league five days later.
