Tarek El-Ashry to succeed Mido as Wadi Degla manager
Tarek El-Ashry will take over as manager of Egyptian Premier League side Wadi Degla, chairman Maged Samy announced on Monday night.
El-Ashry will succeed Ahmed Hossam Mido, who announced his resignation on Sunday following his side’s 4-0 defeat to 10th-place Ittihad of Alexandria.
Degla are currently struggling in the relegation zone as they sit 16th on the league table with eight points. After 12 rounds in the 2017/18 season, they have secured only one victory and settled for five draws.
Samy said that they’ll soon officially announce the appointment of El-Ashry as Degla’s head coach, adding that Ahmed Hamouda will be his assistant coach.
Meanwhile, El-Ashry said that he agreed with Samy on taking over at Degla. “Our goal is to help the team return to its normal position on the league table,” El-Ashry said in a televised interview on Monday night.
“We’re in a tough situation and everybody has to work hard…We need to bolster our squad in January and we’ll figure out the needed players during the upcoming games.
“We’ve five tough games and we need to get positive results,” he added.
Degla’s next game will be against Al Masry on December 9 in the round of 16 of Egypt Cup before they take on Arab Contractors in the league five days later. They’ll then face Assiouty, Al Ahly and Entag El-Harby in the league.
