Al Ahly request postponement of Egyptian Super Cup encounter
Al Ahly have submitted a request to postpone their Egyptian Super Cup encounter with Al Masry by one day, the Reds’ director of football has revealed.
The Super Cup will take place at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium, UAE on Friday, January 12, which is only four days after the Cairo derby.
Al Ahly’s director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has stated that Al Masry’s final league game before the Super Cup will take place on the 5th of January, meaning they will have more time to rest, which is unfair to the Red Devils.
Al Masry will take place in their first ever Super Cup despite losing the 2017 Egypt Cup final to Al Ahly, as the Reds have managed to win the Egyptian Premier League as well.
The Reds are the record holders of the tournament with nine titles, six more than rivals Zamalek. While Arab Contractors and Haras El-Hodood have managed to win it only once.
Al Masry will become the eighth club to feature in the Egyptian Super Cup after Al Ahly, Zamalek, Ghazl El-Mahalla, ENPPI, Ismaily and Haras El-Hodood.
