South Africa beat Egypt, qualify for COSAFA U-20 semi-finals


have lost to in the final match of the group-stages of the 2017 COSAFA U-20 Championship on Monday.

Egypt was invited by COSAFA for the first time to participate in this years edition, and they have been drawn into Group B. They have been drawn against South Africa, Mauritius, and Mozambique.

The Pharaohs won their previous two games in the group against Mozambique and Mauritius, but have finished second after losing 2-1 to South Africa, who booked their place in the semi-finals.

Despite taking an early lead through Mohamed Karem after only 18 minutes, South Africa ran out 2-1 winners after the managed to come back, thanks to goals from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Lyle Foster in the 60th and 71st minutes respectively.

Egypt can still reach the semi-finals if they finish as the best-placed runner-up among the three groups. This will be known on Tuesday when the group-stages are over.

The Pharaohs are currently the best second-placed team, as Malawi finished group A in second place with only five points, however, Lesotho and Zimbabwe have four points and Namibia have three and they all could still finish with more points than Egypt.

Lesotho will be up against fourth-placed Angola, while Namibia will face Zimbabwe.
