Egypt qualify for COSAFA U-20 Championship semi-finals
Egypt U-20 national team have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2017 COSAFA U-20 Championship as the second best placed team.
Egypt was invited by COSAFA for the first time to participate in this years edition, and they have been drawn into Group B alongside South Africa, Mauritius, and Mozambique.
The Young Pharaohs started the competition, winning their opening two games against Mozambique and Mauritius, however they suffered a 2-1 defeat against South Africa, who topped the group with nine points.
Despite finishing second in group B, Egypt have managed to get through to the semis after finishing as the best-placed runner-up among the three groups. The Pharaohs collected six points, one more than Malawi and Zimbabwe, who finished second in groups A and C respectively.
Egypt will be up against South Africa in the semi-finals, while Lesotho will face Uganda, with the two encounters being played at the Nkana Stadium on Thursday, December 14.
Meanwhile, the third-place play-off and final are set to take place on Saturday, December 16.
