lost 1-0 to in the semi-finals of the COSAFA U20 Championship.

Egypt was invited alongside Uganda to the COSAFA U20 Championship and were drawn into Group B with Mozambique, Mauritius, and South Africa.

Egypt won their first two games of the competition against Mozambique and Mauritius. However, a 2-1 loss to South Africa saw the young Bafana qualify ahead of Egypt. Egypt later qualified after finishing as the best second placed team.

Early on in the match, South Africa had their first chance but Sambo missed just a few yards from goal. South Africa continued to dominate throughout the rest of the first half, with their chances finally paying off in the 36th minute when Mkatshana scored.

In the first minutes of the second half, South Africa missed a golden chance to add a second goal when Sibiya went one-on-one with Egypt goalkeeper Sobhy. The second half was much calmer as South Africa held on for the win.

Egypt will face the loser of the Uganda vs Lesotho match for the bronze medal on December 16, while South Africa will face the winner on the same day for the gold medal.
