OFFICIAL: Salah shortlisted for CAF African Player of the Year award

The Confederation of African Football ‘CAF’ revealed the final shortlist for the 2017 AITEO across various categories in which Egyptian winger was announced as was one the top three finalists for the Player of the Year award. 

Liverpool’s winger has been enjoying a spectacular season with the Egyptian national team and the Reds. Salah has now scored 20 goals with Liverpool with half the season almost under his belt. This includes 14  goals ahead of the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Agüero and Álvaro Morata.

In addition to his goals, Salah was named as the club’s Player of the Month three times, BBC African Player of the YearNovember’s PFA Player of the Month and the first Arab to win a Premier League of the month award. With the national team, the 25-year-old helped the Pharaohs reach the final of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in January before guiding them to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years in October.

Salah is competing with fellow Liverpool teammate Senegalese Sadio Mane and Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the Player of the Year award.

Hector Cuper was also shortlisted for a different category as he competes with Nigeria’s national team coach Gernot Rohr and Wydad Casablanca’s head coach Hussein Amotta for the Coach of the Year Award, while the Egyptian national team was shortlisted along with Cameroon and Nigeria for the National team of the Year award.

Additionally, Al Ahly is among the top three finalists for the Club of the Year award together with CAF 2017 Champions League winners Wydad Casablanca and TP Mazembe.

Winners of the awards will be named at the 2017 AITEO CAF awards ceremony while will be held in Accra, Ghana on 4th January 2018.
