Former Zamalek target Castro joins Kaizer Chiefs
South African side Kaizer Chiefs have completed the signing of Colombian striker Leonardo Castro from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
Kaizer Chiefs announced on their twitter account that the Colombian striker will join the club in the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old striker had joined Sundowns in the 2015 summer transfer window. Since then, he scored 16 times for The Brazilians, and helped them win the Premier Soccer League and CAF Champions League in 2016.
The Colombian striker has been under Zamalek’s radar since the 2016 CAF Champions League final against Sundowns, which saw the South African side win 3-1 on aggregate.
“It is not a secret that we have been in the market for a striker and are delighted that we have found a player of Castro’s quality. He will certainly add more firepower to the talent we have in our striking department,” Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung said.
Kaizer Chiefs now sit third on the league table with 22 points, six behind leaders Sundowns, who have a game in hand.
