Al Ahly drop further two points after draw with Degla
Al Ahly started the game strongly with their first chance arriving at the sixth minute through Mo’men Zakria who tried a right-footed shot but it went inches over the bar.
The Red Devils came close once again ten minute later when Walid Azarou chested Ahmed Fathi’s cross to Abdallah El Said but the Verteran playmaker shot inches the right post.
Wadi Degla’s counter attacks managed to cause Al Ahly’s defence some problems.
The most dangerous chance for the hosts came in the 24th minute when Mohamed Sherif was sent through the goal but he failed to beat Mohamed El-Shennawy from close range.
Al Ahly have forced their domination for the rest of he first half but failed to break through Degla’s compact defence as both teams headed to the dressing rooms with goalless draw.
In the second half, Al Ahly threatened Mohamed Abdel Monsef’s goal after five minutes through Abdallah El Said’s freekick on the left wing but the goalkeeper clears the danger into a corner.
Five minutes later, Wadi Degla responded through Mohamed Sherif who benefited from a scramble inside Al Ahly’s penalty area to send a powerful shot that hit Al Ahly’s right post.
At the hour mark, Al Ahly were awarded a penalty following a foul on Walid Azarou, El-Said stepped up and sent Monsef the wrong way to put Al Ahly into the lead.
However Al Ahly’s lead lasted for just one minute as Wadi Degla equalised in the 62nd minute through Ahmed El Shennawy who attempted a 40-yard shot that got deflected past Amr El-Sulaya into the net.
Al Ahly have dominated the game back after conceding the equaliser, however they failed to translate the control into chances agaisnt Wadi Degal’s defence.
Hossam El-Badry tried to make some changes to the game as he brought Saleh Gomaa, Islam Moharb and Ahmed Yasser Ryan from the bench but the reigning champions failed to grasp as the three points as the game ended with a 1-1 draw.
