Al Ahly achieve important three points in win over Petrojet
Walid Soliman and Abdallah El Said goals secured crucial three points Al Ahly in 3-0 encounter over Petrojet in Matchday 16 of the Egyptian Premier League, to leapfrog Al Masry with two games in hand.
Al Ahly managed to return to winning ways after an inconsistent run of results that have seen the Red Devils drop seven point in the previous four league games.
Both teams witnessed a flat first half as Al Ahly had few shots on target and Petrojet’s attack was not threatening the league title holder’s goal enough.
On the 26th minute, Phakamani Mahlambi who featured as a starter with the Red Devils, had scored a disallowed goal; The South African midfielder received a through pass from Abdullah El-Said which was intended to Walid Azarou who moved towards the ball without touching it and was whistled offside.
One of the most dangerous attacks on the field was at the 37th minute from Al Ahly’s right back Ahmed Fathi who curled the ball from the left edge of the box to the top left corner but Petrojet keeper brilliantly saved his side from conceding.
The second half kicked off showing different performance from the Red Devils and Petrojet gained some composure on the field. Five minutes through the second half Hossam El-Badry took off Phakamani Mahlambi for Islam Mohareb.
On the 61st minute, Walid Soliman was the one to break the deadlock as he received the ball from Abdullah El Said’s effort inside the box and fired a low drive past the defenders to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead.
Al Ahly resumed their domination as Abdallah El Said doubled the lead on the 77th minute after a textbook counter-attack where the Egyptian playmaker ultimately received the ball from Mohareb andand calmly netted the second with his left foot.
On the 80th minute mark, Walid Azarou made a fierce run towards’s Petrojet where he was tripped by Petrojet goalkeeper winning a penalty for the Reds. Abdallah El Said stepped up and converted from the spot to secure three points for the Reds with a 3-0 win.
Following their victory, Al Ahly now claim the second place below leaders Ismaily with. The Red Devils next encounter will be against Al Nasr on Tuesday 2nd of January before Cairo derby against Zamalek on the 8th of January.
