HANDBALL: Al Ahly beat Zamalek, lift Federation Cup
Al Ahly handball team have managed to lift the Egyptian Federation Cup after they beat arch-rivals Zamalek in the final game on Saturday.
The Red Devils reached the final after beating Smouha 28-24 in the semi-finals, while the Whites defeated 6 October to face Al Ahly at the Suez Canal stadium.
Both teams entered the game without the international players, as they are currently on duty with the national team, who are preparing for the 2018 African Men’s Handball Championship in Gabon, which will be held from 17 to 27 January.
And Despite Al Ahly missing more international players (6), they managed to beat their rivals, who missed four of their players’ services by two games to one, winning the Federation Cup for the third time in a row.
The competition started in 2016, with Al Ahly winning all three editions of the tournament, beating Smouha in the first year and Al Gazira in the following one.
