Nour El Sherbini retains World No.1 spot for 21st month

retained her spot at the top of the PSA Women’s World Rankings for the 21st successive month, while remained second in the men’s rankings.

The 22-year-old two-time World Champion is followed by her compatriot Raneem El Welily in second place. Welily, 28, was crowned World Champion for the first time in her career after defeating El Sherbini in the final of the women’s PSA World Championships at Manchester last month.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Nouran Gohar remained in the fifth place while Nour El-Tayeb jumped one spot up after reaching the semi-final of the World Championship to replace England’s Sarah-Jane Perry in seventh place.

Egyptians also dominated the men’s rankings, occupying six places out of the top 10. Mohamed ElShorbagy, 26, remained second, however, he reduced the gap with current World No.1 Gregory Gaultier to just 43 points after beating his younger brother Marwan to the PSA World Championship title in December.

Egypt’s Ali Farag remained in third place, with compatriots Karim Abdel Gawad and Marwan ElShorbagy rounding out the top five list. Tarek Momen retained his seventh-place spot, while Mohamed Abouelghar moved two places up from 11th to get into the top 10 for the first time in his career.
